Inside: Do you struggle to pray for your husband? Maybe you can’t remember the last time you sat down and really prayed for your marriage. Learn how to pray for your husband here, as well as 9 pre-written marriage prayers to get you started today.

Prayer has never come easy for me.

When I was younger, I thought I needed to say the perfect words in the perfect order. Like somehow if I said it all just right, I was magically a better Christian. (And my prayers would magically become true just like that.)

Oh, how wrong I was.

Matthew 6:7-8 says,
“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

God doesn’t care how intellectual you are.

…or aren’t.

He cares about your heart. And, more importantly, He knows your heart. He knows what you’re trying to say even on the days when you can’t seem to say anything right.

For days like that, here is a list of 9 marriage prayer prompts to help you piece your heart together when you can’t find the right words to say.

Prayer Is Letting Go And Giving God Control

It’s humbly saying, “I’ve tried it my way and it never works… I’m laying my desires down and submitting today to obey You. I know You know what is best. Take control, God.”

Marriage Prayers to Pray Today

1. Prayer For My Husband’s Protection

I thank you for my husband. Thank you for blessing me with such a strong, noble, and genuine man. Thank you for the opportunities you’ve given us and the blessings you’ve poured out on our life together.

I feel so blessed that I get to have him as my husband, and I pray that you would guard his life and keep Your Mighty hand of protection over his life. That you would bless him with many days, just like Psalm 91:16 says.

God, You have numbered the days of my husband’s life and I praise you for each new day that I get to spend with him here on earth.

I pray that I wouldn’t take these moments for granted and that I would remember to be grateful for the time we have together.

Help me to remember that no matter what happens, You have his life in your hands. I pray that just like Romans 8:28 says that You, God, work for the good of those who love You, that You would work good into our lives together.

Thank you for your love and your protection.

Thank you that we get to be Your sons and daughters. Thank you for my husband and the blessing he is to those around him. God, most of all, I thank you for sending Your Son to take away our sins.

2. Prayer For My Husband At Work

You have given us so much in this life. Thank you that no matter what comes our way Your strong and mighty hand is upon us through the waves. Thank you that you’ve always made a path for us through the wilderness and that you never leave us wandering on our own.

Today I want to thank you specifically for my husband’s job.

Thank you that you have provided a job for him to work hard at. A job that stretches him and challenges him to grow in new ways.

A job that might not always be the most fun or the easiest, but a job that is consistent and is exactly what he needs right now.

God, if where my husband is right now isn’t where You want him to be, I pray that you would guide us and show us what it is that You want him to be doing, and when you open our eyes to this revelation, God I pray that we would step out in faith.

Let us not waiver and stand back in fear of the unknown, but to step out and trust that You will always lead us on.

God, I pray that you would open doors for my husband that no man can shut. Doors of opportunity. Doors of new beginnings. Doors to where You want him to be.

You have blessed me with such a hardworking man and I thank You for his work ethic. I thank You that he is diligent and works hard, even on the days when it’s difficult.

I pray that we would always remember to lay up our treasures in heaven and not focus on these mere earthly possessions, but God, I want to thank You that you’ve provided a job for my husband that allows us to purchase the essentials and live comfortably.

Let these words carry him through the hard days: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,” (Colossians 3:23).

Let my husband be a man who works hard and I pray that his work gets rewarded. I pray that he feels appreciated for the work he does and that the appreciation he feels would drive and motivate him to work even harder.

God, thank you for blessing me with a man that provides for his family.

3. Warfare Prayer For Husband

Dear God,

Thank you that we are Your children. Thank you that You care so much for us that you sent Your Son to die for our sins. We are so unworthy and we fail time and time again, yet You never stop reaching out your arm toward us.

I pray for my husband as hard times and trials come his way.

God, if I could have it my way I would ask that no hardship would be put upon his life, but I know You are working on molding and crafting him into a man after Your own heart. I know that You are using each new trial as an opportunity to get him even more spiritually in shape.

So God, even though it’s hard to watch my husband – my rock, the love of my life – go through hard times, I pray that he would cling to the Rock. That his faith would never waiver and that he would run to you like his life depends on it.

I pray as hard times come our way, I would support my husband and not criticize. I ask that You would equip me to be the wife he needs me to be to get through these hard times.

Help us to remember what 1 John 4:4 says: “…you are from God and have overcome them, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

God thank you that You are on our side. Because God, if you are for us, no one can be against us.

In Your great name,

4. Prayer to Soften My Husband’s Heart & Prayer For My Husband to Love Me

You know my husband better than me or even himself. You knit him together and planned each day of his life before he was even born. God you send Your Son from heaven to come down and die for your son’s – my husband’s – sins. That is how great and deep and wide your love is, Oh God, and I thank you for that.

You know everything, Lord. You know the number of hairs on my head and the grains of sand on the beach. You know that I am struggling with the hardness of my husband’s heart.

But more importantly, God, You alone know that he is a good-willed man. You know that he is loving, and caring, and compassionate, he just doesn’t always know how to show it.

God I ask that you would soften his heart towards me and those around him. That he would recognize the way he speaks/acts doesn’t come across as loving.

Open his eyes to the hurt.

I don’t want to nag him, I don’t want to criticize him. You know that I love him more than anyone, but God, it’s hard.

It’s hard to come home to a harsh husband night after night. It’s exhausting to fight, yell, scream. God, I’m growing weary.

I pray you would soften my husband’s heart, but God, most of all, I pray you would help me to remember how much you love him, and how much you love me.

God I’m begging you to open to the way he is treating me. God we are two very imperfect people joined together in marriage.

I recognize that my husband loves me and that he is a good-hearted man. God, he is caught in sin and I pray that you would knead his heart and break through the outer shell. Help him to see with new eyes.

God, enable me to see past his hard exterior to the man I fell in love with. I want to see him for who he really is, not the sin that has gripped his life.

I recognize that I have no ability to change my husband, nor do I want to. God I am a sinful person myself. I’m asking that You would bring change to his life, that You would speak to him in a way you’ve never spoken to him before. Touch his life, God.

Give me strength to be respectful, to tame my tongue, and to love him even when his heart is hardened towards me.

God, I remember that you are a good God.

5. Prayer For My Husband’s Faith

Thank you that we live in this free country where we have the ability to serve you. Where we don’t have to be afraid because of our faith, but that we get to share it with those around us.

I ask today that my husband would grow in his faith.

God, I ask that you would put an emptiness in my husband’s heart. An emptiness that I can’t fill, that money can’t fill, and that work can’t fill. God, place an emptiness in his heart that only you can fill.

Would You give him a longing to know You, Lord? I believe my husband was made for success – that he was made for far greater things, and I know that is what he will find when he puts his whole trust in You alone.

God please speak into my husband’s life with faith, give him confidence to stand up for what he believes in and help him to make time with you a priority.

Would you help my husband to step up to the plate of being the spiritual leader I need? Help him to take on the challenge of guiding his family toward you. Of reading the bible and spending time in prayer.

Of leading by example.

Thank you for your provision,

6. Prayer For My Husband’s Mind

God, I pray that my husband would set his mind on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2). That he would remember his true treasures are in heaven and that all these earthly things will one day fade away.

God, protect his mind. Now more than ever temptation waits like a lion ready to pounce on its prey, ready to attack his mind, body, and soul.

Please guard my husband’s mind and keep it pure, but when temptation does come his way, I pray that he would take the way of escape that you promise to provide (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Help him to fix his mind on things that please you, Lord, not on feeble and temporary earthly pleasures.

Intervene when he faces temptations that grip his mind and draw him away from You.

God, thank you love us and You care for us. Thank you that You are on our side and don’t delight in seeing us fall short time and time again, but that when we do, your arms are always open and waiting for us to come back to You.

In the name of Jesus, I command the enemy away from my husband’s mind today. I declare in Your name, O God, that You would be King over my husband’s mind and help him to think of things that please you.

7. Prayer For Husband’s Health

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for health. Thank you for the healthy bodies we have. God, even though things may not always work as they used to or sickness grips our bodies from time to time, I praise you for the health we have been blessed with.

May we never take it for granted.

Lord, I ask that sickness, disease, and injuries stay far from my husband. I pray that these illnesses would not touch him.

But God, if sickness does come his way, help us to look for the good in it. Help us not dwell on the negatives in the situation, but to look for a way to use this situation for Your glory. God, give us strength to make it through the hard times.

Give us courage to make it through days, weeks, months, or even years of illness, if it comes to that. Let us never give up our hope in You and let our eyes not waiver from Your grace. God, our situation doesn’t determine your goodness.

All the time, You are good.

Thank you Lord,

8. Thankful For My Husband Prayer

God, I am so, so thankful for this man you have given me the privilege of doing life with.

I just want to praise You and thank You. God, you know better than anybody that times aren’t always sunshine and rainbows, but You knew what you were doing when you decided we should be together for the long haul.

Thank you for the love my husband has for me. Thank you for blessing me with a man who is a hard worker, who is kind, caring, and compassionate. A man who is honorable and highly esteemed. Thank you for this man, that he is diligent, loves You, and is ruggedly handsome.

God, thank you for my husband.

Help me to never take him for granted. Help me to always look for the good in our marriage, even on the hard days. And God, help me to be the wife he needs.

In Your great and wonderful name,

9. Prayer For Strength and Guidance in Marriage

Thank you that I get to do life with my husband. Thank you that we get to go through life’s ups and downs together. That he is my rock, my provider, and my safe place.

Even on the hard days, God, I ask that we would cling to each other – not revert to our own corners of the house. Help us to find strength in one another, to grow closer together, not further apart.

God, I know the enemy hates to see couples happily married – especially Christian couples – so I ask that you would put Your Mighty hand on our marriage. I ask that divorce wouldn’t even be in our vocabulary and that You alone would keep our marriage going strong.

Help us to draw closer to You, and closer to one another.

God would you guide us in our marriage. Speak to us and show us where you want us going and what you want us doing in our marriage.

May we never grow comfortable and stay there, push us and challenge us. And with each passing day, strengthen our marriage even more than it was.

Help us to be the couple that doesn’t get stuck in a daily routine, but instead makes each day different and exciting.

God, would you bring back the fun to our marriage? Bring back the spark and help us to look past the financial burden, the overwhelming tasks, and the arguments to remember the person we fell in love with.

We are so blessed to be able to go through life with one another. I ask that you would intervene in our marriage anytime we start to go numb. Liven us up and show us how to have fun with one another.

God, turn me into the wife my husband needs and mold him into the husband I need.

You are so, so good.

Thank you Lord,
